About
Hi! I’m Shannon, Sister with a Mixer. People are creative in different ways, mine happens to be with butter, sugar and flour. Whether you are a baking enthusiast or you are a beginner, welcome! My goal is to give you the knowledge and confidence to bake anything from a cake to a cookie and so you proudly say I made that.
I’m self-taught and have learned from countless cookbooks, cooking shows, and recipes I’ve collected through the years. My biggest teacher was my mom. Of all the cookbooks, magazines and recipe binders I have, my biggest treasure is my mom’s recipe box.
The beginning
When I was a kid I baked once in a while, then as an adult I turned into a cake mix queen. I remember one day I didn’t have a cake mix and I froze, it had just been so long since I made a cake from scratch. I took a deep breath, then measured and mixed my way through a basic recipe. I survived and my new journey into baking began.
The path
From there I started baking my way through cakes, cookies, brownies, bars, cupcakes, and desserts. I shared my “homework” with friends, family and co-workers, allowing me the opportunity to practice my baking skills and see what resonated with people.
Bake a great moment
No matter what I bake my goal is to create a moment, that pause that comes right after someone takes their first bite. If they stop, take a breath, and emit an audible mmmmm before they go back in for another bite then I know I’ve hit the mark. One of the best compliments I got was when my work BFF said “That was worth every off-my-diet calorie.”
I’m a big believer the most important item that you put into your baking is you. It will be the one thing that will always set you apart and make your goodies and cake creations special.
The recipes
With this blog I look forward to sharing with you recipes you can make for parties and special occasions, small gatherings of friends and family, or when it’s a typical day and you simply want a brownie. My hope is that you will find many recipes here that you will enjoy and add to your own collection as your new favorites and go-tos.

I live in Minnesota with my husband and our cat Houdini. Besides baking I like biking, salsa dancing, the State Fair and grilling (even in the snow).

- Claim to Fame: I won a contest at my workplace for my slow cooker Beef Stroganoff; I won a $25 gift card that I’m sure I used for more baking supplies
- Surprising fact: As a child I had a unicycle, pogo stick, spring shoes, and my dad built some stilts for me; looking back you would have thought I was going to join a circus
